Algebra Rubric Term 3 2021

Algebra Rubric Term 3 2021 Name: Jasper

Criteria

Level 2 (5ii)

Early Level 3

Level 3

Level 4

Algebraic patterns

Explain the rule for a sequential pattern.

Describe the rules for number patterns

Use tables and graphs to describe rules number patterns

Find rules and formulas for number patterns

My Algebra goals:

Goal

Success Criteria (This is what it will look like when I get there)

I need to explain what the next term of a spatial pattern will be. Eg

To achieve this goal I can say which is the next number, shape or character in the pattern or I know what the next number or shape will be in the next part of the sequence. Eg the next creature is a butterfly. The next pattern will have four triangles.etc.

I can describe what must happen for the next pattern. For example

To achieve this goal I can say what is happening in the patterns eg You add two matches each time to make the next pattern in the sequence. It is going up by 2 each time starting from 3.

I need a strategy to continue a pattern without drawing or building every one.

To achieve this goal I will have a strategy such as a table I can use to work out how many matchsticks there will be needed to make 10 triangles.

Triangles

1

2

3

4

5

Matches

3

5

7

9

11

Each time the difference gets bigger by one so I can work out the 10th pattern without building it.

I need to be able to use a formula to work out the 100th term in a spatial or number pattern

To achieve this goal, I can use letters to represent the term in a sequence that I get from looking at a table and building a formula.

I notice if I double the number of triangles and add 1, I get the number of matches needed so m = double p plus 1. Eg 3 x 2 = 6 plus 1 = 7.

Goal setting Algabra

My goal in algebra is to use a formler

Algebra Reflection

Using the two tests, think about your strengths and which gaps you have sorted out. (goals you have achieved). To be completed at the end of the 3 weeks.

Talk to someone about:

  • How you achieved them (you could talk about how quickly you achieve them, some of the learning qualities that helped you achieve them.)

  • What strategies you now have to help you with algebraic problems. (use your rubric)

  • What worked well for your learning (what you did or what your teachers did)

  • What could have been better (what could you have done better? or what could your teachers have done better?)

Finally post on your Blog

An Example

Progress and what could have been better.

I was working on using tables to help me see patterns with numbers rather than having to build the next pattern when we were using matches. It was good to be able to build the next pattern just to check though. Having the materials definitely helped.

What could have been better was spending more time using graphs to help me predict number patterns and spending more time on formulas. I think I worked hard and definitely have better strategies like using tables that I didn’t have before.

Basic Facts Graph Term 1 and 2.

Basic Facts Graph Term 1 and 2.

This graph shows the progress made by students over Terms 1 and 2 with their Basic Facts Tests. The aim is for students to become automatic with their knowledge of Addition and Subtraction to 20, and Multiplication and Division to 100 by the end of year 6. This will help students gain better understandings with other Strands, Concepts and Problems.

Decimals

Reflection about My Basic Facts Term 1 and 2.

I am good at my times tables but maybe I need to work on  division.

June

I have worked on division all term. My next goal is to hopefully get on to the decimals sheet.

Why sport is more important than music

Why sport is more important than music

By Jasper Sutherland

This is why I think sport is more important than music. Sport has more exercise, we all run a lot in sport.

Sport is the one thing I like most, there are reasons why sport is more important than music, one of them is that in sport you run heaps but in music you are either sitting down or standing up. You can play sport inside or outside, music calms you down but sport hurrases you and I like being harassed. Sport is in the fresh cold air outside but music is inside in the hot and sticky air.

Music, I like music but I like sports better. One of the downside bits of music is that most of the time that we are outside playing sports other people are playing music. I mean music isn’t bad but more people like sports better than music.

So I hope you got persuaded to think sport is more important than music.

Persuasive writing

Persuasive writing

Dear chiefs

I would really like to go on the horouta waka to look for new lands. I know some people that are going on the waka and I think I’m one of the best people going on it. here are some of my reasons:

I am going to help with the sails , this following sentence is the detail why I am going to help with the sails. I am really good at climbing, which will help with the pulling of the ropes if they fly loose, I like climbing and I’m not afraid of heights. I like climbing trees and all sorts.

Secondly to build and reaper boats and houses. I like building anything really if you ask me to, and I am good at building things.

Thirdly I like boats and fishing, I love boats and anything that goes on water because I do not get seasick, I will help the horouta waka with their fishing. I like fishing and I have had heaps of experience within and without fishing.

Fourthly, I am a good cook. I love cooking everything, especially cooking over fire and I like cooking new things.

That was my last reason, chiefs I hope you choose me because I know you are the best chiefs, and if you don’t choose me to go on the good waka you will be insulting me.

                                                            Yours sincerely Jasper

What the positions are in football and the rules

What the positions are in football and the rules

By Jasper Sutherland

Each position in football is quite different there is attack/ midfield / defence and lastly goalie. Attack is where you stay up the side you are scoring on and basically you score the goals.

Midfield is basically attack but you have to come back and defend as well. It’s their job to win the ball and pass to the attackers as well as supporting the defenders.

Defence is defending the goal that you are not shooting in. Lastly it all comes down to goalie, goalie is the position that the team is relying on to save all the goals that are shot at them.

Now the most important part of football is the rules. If you don't follow the rules, you will probably  get something wrong. These are the rules /No handballs/and No offsides. Now you will know how to play football

My writing goal is to use time connectives.

My measurement Reflection

 Measurement Reflection - Model

Write a reflection on your learning in Measurement. You will need to look at both tests and also be prepared to talk about the workshops you went to, the mathletics tasks you completed, the videos you watched on the site, or anything else that helped you. You may like to use the headings below but you don’t have to.

My strengths

My strengths are reading scales temperature and reading scales capacity.

Goals

My goal is to calculate Area, perimeter and volume.

What helped me

Working on mathletic Measurement tasks helps me work with my maths.

What the teachers did well in, and what they need to work on

Mr K and Mrs Toon did well in organizing the maths test  (actually there is nothing wrong with the  Measurement test).
